At Storybook Cottage, learning doesn’t only happen inside the classroom. Our Outdoor Classroom provides children with daily opportunities to explore, discover, and learn through nature.

Children are naturally curious about the world around them. By spending time outdoors, they develop a deeper connection to nature while building important skills in science, problem solving, creativity, and independence.

Our outdoor learning spaces are designed to inspire exploration, imagination, and hands-on discovery.

Montessori-Inspired Outdoor Learning

The Storybook Garden

A special part of our outdoor classroom is our Storybook Garden, where beloved children’s stories inspire garden spaces filled with flowers, vegetables, and pollinator plants.

Children explore garden areas inspired by favorite books while learning about plant life cycles, insects, and the beauty of the natural world.

This magical space brings together literacy, nature, and imagination.

Wildlife Area & Certification

We are excited to announce that Storybook Cottage is building a Wildlife Area, which will soon be certified by the Wildlife Federation!

This special space will allow children to:

• Observe native birds, insects, and small animals in their habitats

• Explore natural ecosystems and learn about conservation

• Participate in hands-on, inquiry-based learning about the natural world

Our Wildlife Area enhances our outdoor classroom, providing a living laboratory for exploration, discovery, and connection with nature.

Cooperative Games & Movement

Our outdoor space is also designed for active play and teamwork, supporting gross motor development, coordination, and social skills.

Children enjoy:

• Parachute games – Building cooperation and movement

• Ribbon dancers – Exploring rhythm and creative expression

• Galloping horse sticks – Imaginative running and balance

• Team challenges & obstacle activities – Problem-solving and collaboration
